Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community within the West Island of Montreal is an example of a "sleepy" location. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a huge area that extends from Lachine up to the west. There is an argument that it was the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, the time she spent in the city was brief. Brugel grew up in Courtice in the vicinity of Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however because of a huge expansion, she outgrew every one of her dancing partners. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. Once I outgrew male partners I began to stop. For Brugel, it was the encouragement of an instructor in drama from her high school that inspired her to take up acting. The teacher encouraged her to take part in her school's production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Since then, Brugel's participated in 60+ productions both on big screens and smaller ones. She gained the most recognition when she landed her part as Rita on the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian on the Season 1 Cast of the show and was only seen on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
